Poem by Matthew Heston

A poem from Matt, formatted as it was in the email he sent me. Do well... RC

commissioning dali

Her face hangs upside down from a tire swing floating in outer space.
I'm wearing an astronaut costume holding a cardboard sign that reads
"Will you go to prom with me?" The sun's rays are snakes and one is
wrapped around my calf muscle. A giant tower is viewable on Earth that
shows it has become MTV's universal headquarters. What the viewer
doesn't know is this is all a reflection in the eye of a five year old
girl.

Wow, the meaning of this work is a toss up for me. You'll have to let me know if I'm anywhere close. It could be a Sci-Fi kinda deal? The girl and the narrator are in space looking down at earth from a swing or could it all be in the girl’s imagination? Or is this a TV show of some kind?

You've written a really thought provoking poem here. I had to chew it over for a few minutes before daring to say anything. I enjoyed the metaphor comparing sunrays to snakes and when you mentioned one wrapped around the narrator's calf muscle it projected a clear mental image of light streaming around someone.

The only part that looks a bit bumpy is the second to last sentence about the tower. Though honestly, I can't tell you precisely why I think this. I'm just a bit confused as to what's being said in that verse.

Anyway, ya've got an interesting poem that could have many meanings and I like it. It's a tad confusing yes, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing if ya ask me.

I like that you're branching out, but we've already discussed this. I can picture it all in my head as one scene, not a series and not a story, and I love that.
